Volleyball
Find a pickup volleyball game near you
Volleyball needs more people than most pickup sports — even a casual grass game wants four — which is why it is the sport where a way to find players matters most. Post the net, the surface and the time, and let people nearby who play volleyball find it.
How pickup volleyball runs
Sand is usually 2v2 or 4v4, grass is 4v4 or 6v6, and indoor rec-centre sessions are 6v6. Games go to 21 (sand and grass) or 25 (indoor) with rally scoring and win-by-two. On a busy court, the winning team stays and the next group rotates in.
Where games happen
- Beach and park sand courts, where nets are usually permanent.
- Any park lawn if someone brings a portable net — say so in your post.
- Recreation centres and gyms for indoor open-play sessions, most common in winter.
What to bring
- A ball. An outdoor ball for sand and grass, an indoor ball for the gym.
- A portable net and boundary lines if the park has no court.
- Sand is played barefoot; grass and indoor want shoes with grip.
Pickup etiquette
- Call "mine" early and loudly so two people do not go for the same ball.
- Rotate serve and positions every side-out.
- Mix skill levels across teams rather than stacking one side.
How CatchBuddy helps
Post the park, the time, and whether you are bringing the volleyball, and people nearby who play volleyball can see it and ask to join. Or browse players near you and invite someone directly. Games are at public parks, messaging stays on the platform, and everyone builds a rating history. Read the safety guidelines before your first meetup.
